Things I like about winter (post-Holidays):

  • Even though the sun shines less, it is still bright because of the white snow
  • Sometimes there are deer in our backyard looking for food and they are pretty (and I don’t get mad because there aren’t really any plants for them to ruin)
  • I can make fires in the fireplace
  • I can be lazy about the house and not feel guilty for not going outside

  • Plenty of time for crafty ventures like crocheting, felting, etc.
  • I can work out with out getting very sweaty
  • Good TV shows are in season
  • Most friends are in town and not away on trips (who travels in this weather?)
  • When I go outside for more than 5 minutes, my cheeks and nose get rosy
  • Baking warms the house and you can open the oven after the baked thing comes out and bask in a waft of hot air
  • There’s a feeling of camaraderie – yes, it’s still winter, but at least we’re all in it together

Things I like about spring, which I wish would arrive soon! :

  • Foods that are not cabbage or root veggies come into season
  • Days get longer, so I can take a walk after dinner
  • I can go outside without cringing and without the bulk of coat, scarf, earmuffs, gloves, etc.
  • I can wear impractical shoes again without slipping on ice
  • I can empty the compost without trudging through snow
  • I can start planting seeds and thinking about gardening
  • I can drive to see family or friends without having to make last minute cancellations due to weather
  • If I make a stinky dinner or burn something I can open the window to air out the kitchen
  • Mud smells good
