Yes, It’s been a while since I’ve posted. All summer, really. Well, it’s summer. Who wants to be cooped up sitting at a computer? Although I have spent a good portion of my summer doing just that. But I also have a good excuse – being 9 months pregnant saps a lot of my energy and motivation. I’ve been less inclined towards painting lately, and more inclined towards…

lounging. Not that I haven’t done anything – here’s a peek at a couple recent baby-related creative pursuits.

1: The afghan that wouldn’t end. I’ve been working on this thing since the baby was just a twinkle in our eyes, and it is finally done. Two squares here, one there, and a pattern book that I renewed from the library an infinite amount of times (luckily, there are copies at three area branches), and now it’s finally complete! I made a few alterations on what the pattern called for, using my own color choices, and kitchen cotton yarn rather than a worsted weight poly-blend. This also meant a different size needle and a little fudging when it came to fitting the squares together, but in the end, I’m happy with the result. I hope I’ll still be happy after it’s covered in spit up and other baby stains. :)

2: The two day mobile. A couple weeks ago I started folding little stars out of brown paper, a trick that a friend of mine in high school taught me. Once I’d made 10 or so, I thought, what the heck am I doing with these? I hadn’t really thought ahead, just started folding. Then I decided they would look lovely dangling from a mobile, and so I decided to spruce them up with some paint, silver wire, and a star shaped hanger (thank you for the idea, Ken).

Thanks to Scott and his gift of a very awesome camera, the quality of these pictures ought to be somewhat better than ones I’ve taken in the past. Hopefully pictures of art + baby will follow in the weeks to come!
